At approximately 12:20 Wednesday afternoon, a Lubbock police officer was flagged down in the area of 19th Street and Crickets Avenue concerning a hit-and run-crash. A SUV traveling northbound on Crickets Avenue had a red light and attempted to turn left onto 19th Street. As the driver turned left on a red light, the SUV crashed into a vehicle traveling eastbound on 19th Street. The suspect then fled the scene of the crash. The vehicle that was struck had three occupants, two females and a child. The child had minor injuries and was checked out by EMS.
The officer was able to get a detailed description of the suspect’s SUV including the license plate number. About ten minutes later, an off duty officer spotted the SUV doing donuts in the middle of the street in the area of 1900 Texas Avenue. While doing this, the SUV nearly struck multiple vehicles traveling in the area.
Due to the driver’s erratic behavior causing one crash with injuries and almost causing multiple others, the officer initiated a traffic stop. The suspect refused to stop and a short pursuit of about four minutes followed.
As the SUV traveled south on Avenue P, the driver ran a stop sign at the 50th Street intersection. The SUV then collided with a car traveling west on 50th Street and came to a stop.
The female victim in the car had minor injuries and went to the hospital by a private vehicle.
The 33-year-old female driver of the SUV was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical clearance.
Per LPD policy, Accident Investigators were called to the scene to conduction an investigation.
