The Texas Department of Public Safety on Wednesday provided new information on an officer-involved shooting.
The Texas Rangers were investigating an incident on Saturday afternoon in Cochran County where a state trooper shot a suspect.
DPS said on Wednesday, “The suspect has been identified as Mikeal Brent Richardson, 56, of Morton.”
“Richardson has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony evading arrest in a vehicle,” DPS also said. “Richardson is currently listed in stable condition at University Medical Center in Lubbock.”
DPS previously said the Cochran County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a suspect on Texas Highway 114 west of Morton. Richardson had earlier pointed a rifle at the sheriff after he responded to a call at Richardson’s home.
DPS also previously said Richardson led law enforcement on a chase. A DPS Trooper shot Richardson who was then airlifted to a local hospital. The name of the officer was not yet released.
According to DPS, a handgun, two rifles and a large amount of ammunition were found inside Richardson’s truck.
