On Monday, August 28th, 2017, at about 4:13 p.m., Officers of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to 701 North Main Street, The Clovis Carver Public Library, for a mobile active shooter. On arrival, Officers contacted the suspected shooter who immediately surrendered. There have been fatalities at this incident and multiple injuries. The identity of victims in Monday afternoons incident at 701 N Main St. are as follows.
Wanda Walters, age 61 (Deceased) is a City of Clovis employee. Mrs. Walters is a Circulation Assistant at the Clovis Carver Library.
Kristina “Krissie” Carter, age 48 (Deceased) is a City of Clovis employee. Mrs. Carter is a Youth Service Librarian at the Clovis Carver Library.
Jessica Thron, age 30 is a City of Clovis employee. Jessica is a Circulation Assistant at the Clovis Carver Library and is listed in serious condition and expected to recover.
Alexis Molina, age 20 is listed in serious condition and expected to recover.
Noah Molina, age 10 is listed in stable condition and expected to recover.
Howard Jones, age 53 is listed in stable condition and expected to recover.
The four recovering victims are currently being treated at University Medical Center (UMC) in Lubbock, Texas.
The suspect in custody is identified as Nathaniel Ray Jouett 16 years of age. A petition will be filed on Jouett as a juvenile for the charges of Murder in the first degree (2 counts), assault with intent to commit a violent felony (4 counts) aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (4 counts) and one count of child abuse. A detention hearing will be held within 48 hours of the filing of this petition
The State will then file a notice to seek adult sanctions and plan on taking this matter before a Grand Jury on September 8th seeking an indictment on the aforementioned charges
