Former Texas Tech and Monterey pitcher Chad Bettis threw seven shutout innings in his first games with the Colorado Rockies since being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Bettis received a huge ovation when he took the mound for the first time Monday night.

In his first start since September 30 of last season, Bettis allowed just six hits, struck out two batters and did not allow a walk in Colorado’s 3-0 win over Atlanta.

Bettis was orginially diagnosed with cancer in December and began chemotherapy in March when the cancer returned.

The 28-year-old made six rehab appearances in the minors before returning the Rockies on Monday.
