A local family is relieved after finding their stolen deaf, two-year-old Dalmatian, Pongo. The family was not at home for only thirty minutes when Madison Locke came home to their backdoor opened and both their safe and Pongo missing.
“I went to work at 4:15 p.m. and my fiancé got home at 4:45 p.m. and our back door was open and our safe was gone and Pongo was out of the kennel and gone. Leia was still in there and going crazy,” Troy Chester, the owner of Pongo said.
The family said whoever broke in took Pongo out of the kennel and left their other dog Leia, a boxer mix inside. They believe they also took the safe that had all of Pongo’s proof of breed information in it.
“We’ve recently started walking our dogs and Pongo is purebred and Leia is a mix. We had papers in our safe saying he was a purebred and those are gone now,” Chester said.
Chester said they began searching for him immediately finding him around University and Ave Q, roughly ten miles away from their home. They believe whoever stole him ended up dumping him because they found out he is deaf.
“My guess is someone saw us walking him and knew the market for purebred Dalmatians. His collar is gone so we have the feeling that they found out he was deaf and dumped him,” Chester said.
