The Texas Tech Sports Performance Center should be “substantially complete” by September 4. Although, contractually, the full process should be complete by October 4.
Michael Molina, the Vice Chancellor for Facilities Planning and Construction, says the facility will look great for game day.
“So the construction process has been moving pretty quickly,” Molina says. “We have over 15 trades on site and over 220 men at the peak time.”
The $48 million facility will host a full turf field and a full track/field facility to accommodate invitationals and qualifiers.
Molina said a fire earlier this year did not set them back at all, but the rain during July did.
Texas Tech athletes will also be in for a surprise. According to Molina, the inside graphics will be held off for last.
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt had a say in some of the upscale designs that will go into the facility.
“The interior branding package is all being fabricated as we speak,” Molina added.
