Good Morning,

Triple Digit Heat Continues: It has reached or exceeded 100° here in Lubbock for the last six days in a row. We’ll keep the trend going today and on Saturday. We’ll warm into the lower 100s today and even warmer on Saturday. The record high for Saturday is in danger of being tied or broken. The record is 107° from 1924. I’m forecasting a high of 108° for Lubbock on Saturday. The dryline will mix well to the east today and on Saturday so don’t expect any thunderstorms to cool things down here.

Cooler Sunday and Monday: A front will move into the area on Sunday dropping us out of the triple-digits and back into the lower 90s, which is average for this time of year. Models are hinting at a very small chance for rain on Sunday and Monday. For now, I’ve added a 10-percent chance of rain in the forecast.

Triple-Digit Heat Returns: We’ll start another hot weather trend heading into the middle and later half of next week with highs back at and above 100° area-wide.

Heat Advisory Saturday: The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory that will be in effect Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening for areas on the Caprock. A Heat Advisory means that hot heat indices are expected. The combination of heat and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

Hot Weather Safety: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

Summer Arrives Late Tuesday: The Summer Solstice will occur on Tuesday, June 20 at 11:24p.m. local time.
