The Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to Iowa State, 79-68, on the road Wednesday night despite a strong effort by Texas Tech.

The Lady Raiders (11-14, 3-11 Big 12) opened the game with a strong first quarter. Tech stunned the Cyclones (14-11, 5-9) with back-to-back threes by sophomore Recee’ Caldwell to take a 11-6 lead. Iowa State went on to tie it up 14-14 before the Lady Raiders took an 18-14 lead in the first quarter.

The Cyclones capitalized on four three-pointers and a 22-10 second quarter to take a 36-28 lead into the half.

Another 20-point quarter for Iowa State pushed their lead to 57-44 heading into the final period.

Tech never let up. The Lady Raiders battled and outscored the Cyclones 24-22 in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough to make up the deficit.

Three Lady Raiders scored in double figures for the 13th straight game. Sophomore Recee’ Caldwell led the team with 18 points, marking her 17th double-digit game of the season. Caldwell went 3-for-4 from the field and shot 100 percent from beyond the arc in the first quarter alone.

Senior Ivonne CookTaylor followed with 13 points, six rebounds and an assist against Iowa State. Junior Jada Terry scored 11 points and tallied eight rebounds and three blocks.

Junior Dayo Olabode scored nine points for the Lady Raiders. She drained a three-pointer for the third straight game. Olabode has scored from behind the arc in 10 of the last 14 games. In the four other games, Olabode didn’t take a shot from three.
