Pregnant women exposed to nicotine before and after giving birth may be more likely to have children with hearing problems. German researchers found lab mice given nicotine laced water had a harder time processing sounds.
 
A new study suggested half of traffic deaths involving children are alcohol-related. Researchers tracked nearly 85,000 motor vehicle fatalities involving victims under 21. Half died in accidents involving a driver who tested positive for alcohol. 
 
The American Academy of Pediatrics said written emergency plans for families and caregivers are the best way to help children experiencing severe allergic reactions. Doctors stress epinephrine is the first-line treatment for life-threatening allergic reactions, not antihistamines.
