The United States medal count stands at 26 as of Tuesday night. Eighteen of those medals are in swimming events.

That’s right. 1-8. And counting.

Seven gold, four silver, seven bronze, in individual and team events.

Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky have three medals apiece. That makes 21 pieces of gold for Phelps over his Olympic career.

And some of the U.S.A.’s best events haven’t finished. It’s safe to say that the medal count will tick up and Phelps may hold on to his title as the most decorated Olympian in history.
