Emergency crews were called to the scene of a crash in Northwest Lubbock Saturday night.

Just after 11:30 p.m., an accident was reported on Clovis Road near North Quaker.

Initial reports indicated a semi-truck and an SUV were involved in a collision, and that a car was on fire with a person inside.

A photojournalist at the scene reported that at least one person was transported by EMS to a local hospital.

UPDATE: On Sunday morning Lubbock Police released the following statement:

Last night, Saturday, March 26, 2016 at approximately 11:28 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of semi-truck and trailer versus an SUV traffic crash at Clovis Hwy. and Quaker Ave. The semi-truck and trailer was traveling southeast on Clovis Hwy. when it was rear ended by a 2004 Dodge Durango. The driver of the Durango, Simon James Keel – 33, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to UMC.

The Lubbock Police Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and is investigating the crash. No other information will be released at this time.
