The Voice of Hope hosted its 10th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes March. The march was for both men and women to walk in high heels to speak out against sexual assault and sex trafficking.
“The old saying you never know what someone else is going through until you walk a mile in their shoes. It brings a certain amount of awareness and mindfulness that you have to be understanding and supportive of people going through some serious issues,” Leslie Timmons, the Prevention Director and Event Coordinator for Voice of Hope said.
Timmons said this walk is important to the Lubbock community because a bunch of men walking in heels creates attention from the community.
“It gets people talking and that’s what we need. A lot of people don’t like to talk about these issues, but if we don’t talk about it nothing is ever going to change,” Timmons said.
Members from the Lubbock Police Homeless Outreach Team also attended the event to show their support for victims within the community.
“I want to teach my kid, my boy, that it’s important to respect love and appreciate women abd walking a mile is a way to do it,” Korie Archambault with Lubbock Police Homeless Outreach Team said.
