16th Annual Wake the Desert Competition Held at San Angelo’s Lake Nasworthy

Wake boarders and surfers from all over the U.S. came to compete in this years 16th annual Wake the Desert competition on Lake Nasworthy.

Events kicked off Friday morning at Middle Concho Park continued over the weekend.


One of the event’s biggest sponsors, Tigé, made a second stop in San Angelo for their Endless Wave Tour.

The event is Texas’ largest and longest-running wake boarding and wake surfing competition.

Over 100 riders took place in the competition this year. All riders competed for $2,500 in cash prizes, plus had the opportunity to win wake board and surfing related prizes.

One of last year’s big time winner’s made it out again this year, pro women’s wake surfer, Ashley Kidd.

The competition concluded on Sunday evening, drawing in the biggest crowd of the weekend.
