A Potter County Sheriff’s Department vehicle was hit in the driver side door by a semi on Highway 1061 late Wednesday morning.  The deputy was airlifted first to an Amarillo hospital and then to Lubbock, according to MyHighPlains.com 

Officials later said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.  On Wednesday afternoon, official identified the deputy as Sgt. Craig Smith.  The other driver was not hurt. 

The Texas Department of Transportation shut down northbound FM 1061 at Loop 335 in Amarillo for a time.  Southbound FM 1061 traffic was diverted for a time to FM 2381 for access to Interstate 40.

The nearby Randall County S.O. said by Twitter “Sending prayers to the Potter County Sheriff’s Deputy injured today in a wreck on Highway 1061.”

Smith was on his way to assist DPS with another crash at the time.  Specifics of Smith’s crash were not immediately known.
