Lubbock police were investigating after a row of cars in a Tech Terrace neighborhood were vandalized overnight. Police said, in all, 19 vehicles were damaged.
Some residents in the area of 22nd Street and Akron Avenue woke up to an unpleasant surprise when they walked over to their car to find out not only had their car been vandalized, but several others parked along the sidewalk.
A few of the cars’ windows had been bashed in, while others appeared to have been shot at by a BB gun.
Investigators spent the morning walking through the neighborhood and meeting with victims whose cars had been vandalized.
Victims on scene talked with LPD investigators who said it appeared the incident happened between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 Thursday morning.
Madeline Penn, a senior psychology major at Texas Tech was just one of several residents in the area whose car was damaged. She shared that she believes the area is mostly a safe one, and does not understand why this would have happened in her neighborhood.
“Why would you go and hurt someone else like that? There’s no reason for it. There’s shooting ranges if that’s really what you need to do to have a good time on Wednesday night,” said Penn. “There’s just no reason for it, vandalizing other people’s properties, just a destruction of safety and integrity.”
Anyone with information that may be helpful to police as to who the vandals are, or where they may be, are encouraged to contact Crime Line at 806-741-1000.
As of early Thursday evening, no suspects were located.
