The Humane Society of North Texas and the Hill County Sheriff’s Department worked several hours to round up sick horses Tuesday.

They say they found 20 dead horses and about 50 others malnourished at 173 Hill County Road near Itasca, in about 15-16 acres of land.

The Humane Society of North Texas also picked up donkeys and dogs from the property.

The sheriff’s department says a woman was starving her horses for an unknown reason.

“It’s a pretty rare case in the event that this happens. It’s pretty severe. This is one of the most severe animal cruelty cases that I’ve seen,” said Rodney Watson, Hill County Sheriff.

The woman involved is set to have a hearing at the county courthouse on Monday at 3 p.m.

She could face animal cruelty charges.
