The City of Lubbock Veterans Advisory Committee and Lubbock National Bank will be hosting the 2nd Annual West Texas Salute to Veterans on Saturday, May 28, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fiesta Plaza, located on Cesar Chavez Drive off of North University. The purpose of this event is to show appreciation to our military service members, veterans, and their families and thank them for what they have done to protect our many freedoms and way of life. This event is free and will include a Veteran’s Resource and Information Fair, lunch provided by Lubbock National Bank, activities for children, including Bodywork’s spider climber and face painting, as well as musical entertainment by Junior Vasquez and Don Caldwell Entertainment. There will be some seating available; however, families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. For individuals with disabilities, there will be golf carts to shuttle participants to and from their vehicles. The Veterans Advisory Committee was established by the Lubbock City Council in 2014. Their mission is to assess current veteran programs and services, identify existing gaps and specific unfulfilled needs, particularly during times of transition, and to prioritize and make recommendations to City Council on various aspects of the Lubbock veteran population to improve the quality of life for all Lubbock citizens.
