The Hemphill County Sheriff, James Pearson, said three people were injured when a tornado touched down Wednesday afternoon near Canadian.
The sheriff said one individual suffered “impalement to the abdomen” and the other injuries were minor.
“We have no updates on their condition,” the sheriff said in a written statement.
EverythingLubbock.com learned that one of them was taken to University Medical Center and was in serious condition as of Thursday morning.
Pearson said, “A swift water rescue operation was also conducted successfully to assist four stranded motorists in two vehicles.”
Highways in the area were still closed Thursday morning due to debris from downed trees and flooding.
