As March Madness inches closer and closer everyday, you might question if the Red Raiders will make a tournament. With eight games left and the NIT and big dance are still possible for Texas Tech’s future, but only if they do these 5 things.

1. Tech has to start playing better on the road. In Tubby Smith’s three years at Tech, the Red Raiders have only won three true road games. This year the Red Raiders have only one road win beating a TCU team in Fort Worth. Prior to this year’s road win, you have to go all the way back to 2014 where Tech beat TCU and Oklahoma on the road. With four of the remaining eight games coming on the road, Tech needs to step up their play and contend when they’re not at home.

2. Seniors need to step up. Devaugntah William and Toddrick Gotcher are averaging a combined 24.3 points in wins during Big 12 play, compared to losses where the pair averages a combined 17.1 points. Those seven points can make a huge difference in the outcome of the game, especially since five of Tech’s seven Big 12 losses are in games decided by ten points or less.

3. The Red Raiders need to win half of their final games. Texas Tech has a top ten strength of schedule according to Pomeroy ratings, so even though they are only 3-7 in conference they still have a chance. Texas Tech needs to win four of their final eight games, which means the Red Raiders need a “W” against a ranked opponent. With leading rebounder for number 14 Iowa State, Jameel McKay out for the game against Tech the Red Raiders have their best chance to take down a ranked opponent tonight in the USA.
