Lubbock Police said that six cars were involved with a crash Monday just before 9:30 p.m. on I-27 northbound. It happened in the area just before the Marsha Sharp exit. Lubbock Police said the wreck was caused by a man driving a red pickup truck who hit a string of 5 cars.
The wreck blocked northbound traffic on I-27 for several hours, backing up traffic. EMS said that at least four ambulances were called to the scene
Three victims transported to UMC after this crash. One had serious injuries, LPD said.
The suspect in the crash took off on foot, but was soon apprehended by K9 officers who happened to be working nearby. A K9 bit the suspect and now the suspect is in custody. Police said he is being treated at the hospital now.
One blue car involved in the crash was completely mangled on scene. Police officers on scene said that it is a “miracle” that no one was killed.
Lubbock Police identified the suspect Monday morning as Eloy Salas, 30, of Lubbock. Salas is charged with aggravated assault – bodily injury with a deadly weapon, evading in a vehicle, interference with a police animal – injury, evading arrested/detention, resisting arrest and a violation of parole.
