Following the foreclosure, The Coronado Project on E. 28th street is now called The Spanish Oaks East Apartments. Previous owner, Frank Morrison met with the new owner Lester Payne at LP&L to transfer the electricity from Morrison’s name to Paynes– while the residents open their own accounts. Matt Rose with LP&L is helping with the transition.
“He needs to tell us for these individual units that don’t have lease agreements because ones are going to be put underneath his name,” said Rose. “Outside of that we have no legal authority to establish service if there is no one vouching for an individual unit.”
When Payne was asked who is residents are going forward, he said that he was willing to put 15 apartments under his name out of 42. Payne said that majority of the residents haven’t paid rent to Morrison, and need to find a new place to live.
“They are trespassing and the contract they have with Frank is void,” said Payne. “They dont have our permission to be on the property so they need to move out within 24 hours without further notice.”
Previous property owner Kassey Sexton is working to try to find a new place for these residents to live. Some of them are coming from very rough situations, and are unable to qualify for a rental application in other complexes. One resident, Selena Garza didn’t get a white slip on her door but still feels for her neighbors that did.
“Times can be hard you know that’s why Kassey would work with us and give us an extention if we needed it.” said Garza.
