An 86-year-old woman has been arrested after being caught shoplifting from a department store inside the Mall of Abilene.
According to Abilene Police records, Verlene Carter Bowlin was seen placing items of clothing in a bag and then trying to leave Dillard’s. Employees detained her after she attempted to pass the points of purchase and was not cooperative with loss prevention.
Abilene Police say she attempted to steal $256 in property. She also gave police a false name and birth date to authorities, saying her name was “Freddie.”
Bowlin was booked into the Taylor County Jail on two charges of theft and failure to identify. She has since bonded out.
According to the Taylor County Jail website, Bowlin has three previous theft charges.
