Parks and Recreation and Simmons Community Center will host their 9th Annual Punt, Pass & Kick (PP&K) Local Competition at the Clapp Park Flag Football Field on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. This program is sponsored by the National Football League’s Youth Football programs. Area boys and girls are eligible to compete if they are ages 6 to 15 by December 31, 2016, live in Lubbock or the West Texas region and attend a school that is not holding a PP&K event. This competition will be held at the Flag Football Field on the east side of Clapp Park at approximately 44th Street and Avenue U. There is no cost to participate.
Registration and warm-ups will be from 1:00-1:30 p.m. with the competition beginning at 1:30 p.m. Participants must bring their birth certificates to show proof of age when they register. Youth must wear regular tennis shoes, and no cleats will be allowed. For more information, contact (806) 767-2700.
Coaches and physical education teachers interested in holding a Punt, Pass & Kick event at their school should call Kyla Pruitt at (806) 775-2672 for information on how to register their event. Supplies for school events are provided by the National Football League. Schools holding their own PP&K events must have them completed by September 30, 2016, for their winners to be eligible to compete at the Sectional Competition.
Winners in each age bracket will move on to the Punt, Pass & Kick Sectional Competition held at the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex on October 29, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Parks and Recreation has volunteered to host this regional event for a number of years, and participants come from as far away as Canadian and Midland/Odessa to compete. Winners from the sectional will vie for a spot at the PP&K Team Championships held at an upcoming Dallas Cowboy football game.
To find out if a particular school is hosting a PP&K event and for groups wishing to volunteer to help score both the local and sectional events, please call (806) 775-2672. Additional information and rules are available at www.nflyouthfootball.com.
