J.K. Rowling returns to the magical silver screen with the prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Set in 1926, her new hero, Newt Scamander, stops in New York after he collects magical creatures from around the world. Some of them get out, though, and it could mean disaster for the Wizarding world and the world of mere mortals. It’s rated PG-13 and runs two hours and 15 minutes. “Vade, et Vide” at any Lubbock movie theater, even in IMAX.
The Polar Express starts rolling Saturday night! It’s a round-trip to the North Pole, complete with a visit from Santa. The train departs Wolfforth and you can hop on through December 23rd, but check the schedule for specific dates. There are three trips a night and boarding passes go fast so sign up quickly. The Texas Tech Opera Theatre production of Phantom of the Opera opens Friday night. There are 11 performances from through November the 27th, and the show coincides with the Junior League’s Holiday Happening. Moonlight Broadway helped bring David Gaschen to revive the role of the Phantom, which he played on Broadway for years. The show is at the Civic Center Theater, and tickets are in the $40 to $100 range and on sale now through Select-a-Seat: check their website for specific dates.
