A record-breaking number of tickets sold for the Garth Brooks show, but they won’t be the only show in town.

The 75th anniversary of ABC Pro Rodeo falls on the same weekend.

“100% of our proceeds every year goes straight back to the Boys and Girls Club, provides funding for their annual budgeting needs, and it’s spent however they see fit to serve their youth so they can serve on a daily basis,” Chairman Scott Peterson said.

ABC Rodeo is one of the most popular on the South Plains, and Peterson said the news of Garth Brooks coming to town just sparked more interest.

“We’re already having calls from people from the NM area, Dallas area, that are coming, that are going to be in town for Garth Brooks and so they’re wanting to come to the rodeo they’re gonna be here all weekend, so it’s really cool for the city of Lubbock to have both a cool concert and a local rodeo, so we’re selling tickets like crazy.”

Peterson said folks can expect to see all of their favorite events.

“You can expect your traditional rodeo, you know your bull-riding your saddle bronc, barebacked timed events, the neat thing about the Lubbock rodeo and the ABC rodeo that you don’t see at every event is the freestyle bull fight.”

And most importantly, the committee is thankful for the city’s support.

“We’ve been doing this for 75 years, so just a group of volunteers couldn’t do this on our own, our sponsors, our local sponsors from the volunteers that have come before us and the Boys and Girls Club for allowing us to keep doing it and the people that continue to come to the rodeo that makes this thing successful.”
