An Abilene man has been arrested for allegedly engaging in an improper relationship with a girl under the age of 14.
Kimo Johnson, 24, was arrested on a warrant issued out of Jones County last month. He’s accused of meeting a girl under the age of 14 during a Wednesday night church group in Abilene and also in Anson at a football game. At least one of these meetings lead to an improper relationship, according to police.
This relationship was brought to the attention of authorities when when the Anson Police Department began investigating another suspect, Erik Sowell. Investigators obtained a search warrant for Sowell’s phone and were given consent to search the victim’s phone – both devices contained enough evidence for police to arrest Sowell and book him into the Jones County Jail on a Sexual Performance of a Child charge.
The victim admitted there was a second suspect, Johnson, when a forensic interview was conducted on her during the investigation into her relationship with Sowell.
Johnson was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a Sexual Assault of a Child charge. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond.
Anson Police Chief David Moore has a word of warning to parents in light of these investigations, saying ” that in today’s society it is a must that parents keep a close tab on what their children are doing on the internet. The world is full of child predators and they prey on children everyday on social media.”
