The Abilene Police Department has filed a search warrant to obtain medical records for a male suspect after learning he may have sexually assaulted a two-year-old, giving the toddler an sexually transmitted disease.

An Affidavit for a Search Warrant was filed to obtain this suspect’s medical treatment records from February 1, 2014, to April 6, 2016. The warrant states Hendrick Medical Center contacted Abilene Police after staff treated a young child who tested positive for gonorrhea.

The suspect did take an STD test during APD’s investigation into this incident, but he refused to release the results to police, according to the affidavit.

APD spoke to Dr. Cauffman, a child abuse specialist at Cook Children’s Medical Center, who advised that gonorrhea, “is one of the few sexually transmitted diseases that indicates a sexual assault did occur.”

The search warrant indicates the suspect was know to the victim.
