An off-duty Abilene police officer lost her life Sunday evening in a traffic accident along Interstate 20 in Clyde.
The officer was publicly identified Sunday night by Abilene PD as Elise Ybarra. She was traveling with two other Abilene police detectives to Dallas for a conference. Along the way they drove up on semi-trailer crash.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said, “Traffic was being moved into the right-hand lane of travel by emergency personnel.”
“Traffic slowed to almost a standstill,” DPS said. “A second crash occurred involving a white Chevrolet truck [which] failed to control speed and crashed into an Abilene Police Department (APD) unmarked car.”
“Detective Ybarra was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash,” reported BigCountryHomepage.com. “She leaves behind her husband and 10-month-old baby girl.”
The other two Abilene detectives were taken to Hendrick Medical Center as was the driver of the Chevrolet truck.
