Update (July 13, 2015):
Two Abilene prison units are still restricting water.
The issue was first expected to be resolved Friday afternoon, but now no one seems to know when water will be flowing freely at Robertson and Middleton Prison Units once again.
The city has allegedly located the leak, and workers are diligently trying to resolve the issue.
Prison officials claim inmates in the units are taking turns showing. We have reports from concerned family members that those showers are happening about once every seventy-two hours.
The inmates are provided ice for drinking, but the actual water is scarce.
They claim the toilets are flushable, but they aren’t being flushed regularly due to the restrictions.
Original (July 10, 2015):
Inmates and staff at two Abilene prison units are conserving water once again.
Middleton Prison Unit and Robertson Prison Unit – both on the outskirts of Abilene – are experiencing water pressure problems, and this isn’t the first time.
Water was off or limited back in November of 2014, and now, similar measures are being taken to help raise the pressure in any way possible.
Showers are limited, sack breakfasts are being served, and the water is intermittently turned off to entire buildings – all part of an effort to keep the pressure from completely dying down.
This has been going on since Wednesday afternoon. The City of Abilene contacted prison officials and attempted to located the problem, but it appears the issue is not located on prison property.
Officials report the inmates still have access to water, ice, and toilets. They expect the issue to be resolved Friday afternoon.
