The Alpine High School was placed on lockdown after a shooting incident after 9:30 a.m. Thursday in which one person was confirmed dead.

Our sister station, KMID, in Midland/Odessa said, “We have confirmed an active shooter situation at Alpine High School. The Brewster County Sheriff has confirmed one has been killed.”

Later Yourbasin.com reported, “A source with the Alpine School Board has confirmed … that one student was shot and taken to an area hospital. An officer was also shot in the leg and it is unknown where he is receiving treatment at this time.”

YourBasin.com also reported, “A third person, identified only as a female, was also shot in the restroom at the school by what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That [female] has been confirmed as deceased by the Bewster County Sheriff’s Office.”

Yourbasin quoted Brewster County Attorney J. Steven Houston as saying officers did a safety sweep of Alpine High School and have cleared it.

Houston went on to say that a student was shot by another female student.  The shooter then turned the gun on herself and has died, Houston said.

In the midst of the investigation a Homeland Security Officer was also shot in the leg by a second Homeland Security officer, according to Houston.

Ross University announced a lockdown for the same active shooter situation.

Alpine is about 220 miles southeast of El Paso.
