Just hours after Santa delivered his gifts, shoppers rushed to South Plains Mall on Monday to return and exchange gifts that just weren’t quite right.

“I was so excited that I was calling my grandmother on the phone asking ‘What time are we coming to the mall!'” College Freshman Mikayla Holmes said.

The day after Christmas also proved an opportune time to find a deal, after stores marked down hundreds of items in order to get rid of leftover holiday merchandise. Many of the consumers KAMC news spoke with were regulars at the mall on the day after Christmas.

“People have a lot of giftcards they want to use,” Pink Store Employee Lakia McWilliams said, “And when you get Christmas money it burns a hole in your pocket so you want to use it as soon as possible.”

Pink Store Manager Sierra Johnson said she sold more giftcards than any other day of the year on the Saturday before Christmas, and she would expect to redeem about 200 on Monday.

Her advice for shoppers heading out to shop the sales?

“Come in with your Christmas spirit and be excited. Expect that you’re going to have lines, you’re going to have traffic, so come in a good mood and already prepared for it.”
