The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a two vehicle crash on SH-207 that occurred Saturday in Carson County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 12 p.m., James Birdwell, 67, of Amarillo was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on SH-207 approximately 6 miles north of Panhandle. William Barton, 65, of Portales, N.M., was driving a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on SH-207 behind Birdwell. SH-207 is under construction and the north and southbound lanes are uneven.  Birdwell drifted into the uneven northbound lane and lost control of the motorcycle causing  Birdwell and passenger, Susan Birdwell, 64, of Amarillo to be ejected.  Barton was unable to avoid James Birdwell in the roadway and ran over him.

James Birdwell was pronounced dead on scene by Carson County Justice of the Peace, Jean Hardeman.

Susan Birdwell and Barton were transported to the hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.

They were all wearing helmets.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
