Alan Bellinghausen, a 40-year veteran of Southwestern Public Service Company and Xcel Energy, has been named director of Substation Operations & Maintenance for Xcel Energy’s eight-state service area spanning the Upper Midwest to southeast New Mexico.

Bellinghausen previously served as director of Substation Operations & Maintenance for Texas and New Mexico, a role now filled by Chance Hedger of Amarillo. Bellinghausen brings extensive utility operations experience to his new role. He has worked in the electric utility industry since 1975 when he started as an apprentice electrician with Southwestern Public Service Company. He has a degree in applied science management development from Amarillo College, and also a journeyman electrician certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Bellinghausen is active in Boy Scouts of America, Golden Spread Council, where he has served on the board of directors for the past 20 years. He will direct the company’s substation operations from his office in Amarillo.

Hedger has been with Xcel Energy for 26 years in various positions in Substation Operations & Maintenance and Substation Construction. Most recently, he was the manager of Substation Operations & Maintenance at Xcel Energy’s Texas Panhandle division. He holds a journeyman electrician certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration – management from Colorado Tech University.
