On Monday afternoon, Amarillo Police received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Twitter detected images that could be child pornography.

The images were linked to an account that belonged to a Potter County resident later identified as Amarillo police officer Earnest Tillman McDonald III, 39.

On Tuesday, APD detectives interviewed McDonald. The investigation linked McDonald to the account and the child pornography.

The 47th District Attorney’s Office the pursued a two count complaint against McDonald for possession of child pornography. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center but as of Friday he was not listed in the jail roster.  It’s not clear if he was able to post bond yet to get out of jail until his trial date.

McDonald was placed on administrative leave.  He was employed with the APD since 2008.
