On Sunday, July 19th, at 9:25 a.m., Amarillo Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Southwest 10th on a reported aggravated assault. Upon arrival, officers found an Hispanic male, 29, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim told officers that he was in the residence when his wife came up behind him and shot him one time in the leg. The victim was able to make it outside to the front porch when a neighbor heard the shot and came to check on him. The neighbor provided some medical treatment to the victim and called 911.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. The suspect was located a few minutes later and was taken into custody. Amarillo Police contacted Child Protective Services to take custody of the children since the mother was in custody and the father was going to be admitted into the hospital. His injuries are reported as non life threatening.
The female is identified as Linda Kay Santacruz, Hispanic female, 34. Santacruz was booked into Potter County on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon against a family member.
