Today, Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) voted in support of H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act (AHCA) – legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, the same day two more insurers announced their intention to pull out of Obamacare status insurance markets.
The AHCA contains over a trillion dollars in tax cuts, represents the largest entitlement reform package in over forty years, protects Americans with pre-existing conditions, and expands Health Savings Accounts among other provisions.
Arrington says:
“All Americans—Republican and Democrat alike—want affordable care for their families, but I believe that competition and choice is the best path to our desired outcome—not government mandates and regulations.
“Today, I am proud that Republicans united to deliver on our promise and advance our vision of reining in government and restoring liberty, by taking a solid step towards repealing Obamacare.
“As I have said before, there is no such thing as perfect legislation, but I leveraged every opportunity, as the only Republican Member from Texas on the House Budget Committee, to make major improvements—such as including work requirements, increasing state flexibility, and defunding Planned Parenthood—all of which were included in the final bill.
“Today’s vote represents relief for our middle-class families, a return to Constitutional freedoms, and a restoration of power to the American people. I am excited for the future of our nation and hopeful that we can hand our country to the next generation better than we found it.”
In addition to the AHCA, the House passed legislation Congressman Arrington co-sponsored to ensure Members of Congress and their staff are not exempt from the AHCA.
