An Australian river turtle with what looks like a punk-rock hair style is on a new list of endangered reptiles.

What appears to be hair on the Mary river turtle is actually algae.

According to CNN, it grows on the animals head because the turtle can live underwater for up to three days.

That’s because of its unusual ability to breath under water; through its rear end.

The reproductive opening that it breathes through is also used for excretion.

A reptile biologist says the pet trade led to the loss of an entire generation of Mary river turtles.
