The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office report loose cattle caused several accidents and forced the closure of a highway in the county early Sunday morning.

The incidents occurred in the area of State Highway 114 and Farm-to-Market Road 168 just west of Smyer.

EMS crews were dispatched around 3:45 a.m. for one vehicle accident involving a van. The three occupants were transported to Covenant Hospital in Levelland with non-life threatening injuries.

The DPS said there were three other vehicle accidents. There were no reports of injuries in these accidents but the vehicles did suffer damage.

Both the east and westbound lanes of State Highway 114 were closed by TxDOT crews until around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning
