Friday (July 1) was designated as National Postal Worker Day to honor the hard work of those who deliver mail and packages around the country.

There have been some unusual packages sent through the postal service.  According to the National Day Calendar Website, in 1913 a baby was for delivery — and no we don’t mean birth.  We mean postal delivery.

The baby was mailed for only 15 cents to be delivered to his grandmother who lived a few miles away from the parents.

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum tells of more children who were shipped after the original baby. Children who were 6 years old were also being “shipped” around the country so not just babies made the cut.

In 1915 there was a ban on mailing children. Even with the ban there were still a few children who were mailed. Investigations occurred with these cases and soon after mailing a child finally stopped.
