It’s been decades since the second World War, but on Saturday, a Big Country veteran received his due diligence.

“We didn’t hesitate when we were asked to present this,” stated Sergeant Jennifer Treat.

“We said absolutely, anytime we get a chance to honor a veteran, we’re right there,” continued Staff Sergeant Robert Treat.

For his years of service, Ivy Lucas, who served in the first special forces of the United States, received the Congressional Gold Medal.

“It’s the highest honor you can get as a civilian,” stated Jennifer.

However, Ivy himself did not believe he deserved the medal.

“I don’t think I deserve it, and many people more that me,” he stated.

After speaking with the crowd, it was discovered that this was not a shared opinion. Because, you see, he’s not just a veteran but a World War II vet, and a man who served with an elite force. Several commented that just finishing the training with the unit was impressive, not to even mention their campaigns.

“The force helped liberate Rome and Naples,” stated Ivy’s niece Jeanette Pursley.

And, according to Staff Sergeant Treat, the force never failed a mission.
