Gilberto Ray Hinojos, 22, of Big Spring was caught trying to solicit underage sexual contact according to documents filed Wednesday in Lubbock federal court.

Hinojos pleaded guilty to one count of “attempted receipt of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety in May created an online ad posing as a 13-year-old girl named Shelly.  Hinojos admits he responded to the ad and then began requesting sexually explicit images of her genitals.

Hinojos admits he made arrangements to meet Shelly in the 5700 block of 19th Street.  But instead of meeting Shelly, he met officers who took him to jail.

Hinojos posted bond and as of Thursday was not in jail.  In addition to the federal charge, he still faces a state charge related to the same incident.

He’ll be sentenced in federal court at a later date to at least five years in prison but no more than 20 years.
