Bill Paxton is from Fort Worth, and like any great Texan, loved the lone star state. He recently launched a fundraising campaign to restore and protect the Alamo.
Of course, here in the Hub City fans love his iconic role in “Twister.”
“When I first saw it, I was so awestruck by these forces of nature,” said storm chaser Tyler Hudson.
Paxton influenced these storm chasers. From a young age, they wanted to know everything about tornadoes.
“They’re going out there trying to chase these things. They’re up front with tornadoes and dangerous things that get your adrenaline start pumping,” said Hudson.
You may not know, Paxton loved weather and researched it heavily before chasing tornadoes with Dorothy in “Twister.”
“He’s very charismatic and really did know all the meteorology behind it,” said Hudson.
Sunday, storm chasers paid a special tribute to Paxton.
“Actually, Bill Paxton is the first time we’ve done this for someone who isn’t an actual storm chaser. It’s really important to the creators of this that we put it in the heart of tornado alley. He’s the heartbeat of the storm chasing community since 1996,” said Hudson
As we head into severe weather season, there are a few things you shouldn’t try after watching the movie.
“Overall if you’re in the car driving down the road a lot of the movie was them in the field. Pull over, get into a ditch face down, put your hands over your head,” said storm chaser Mark Eslick.
Paxton will leave a lasting impression on these two thrill seekers.
“Bill’s character relates to how I want to be. I like to be in the eye of the storm bears cage, maybe too close for some people. It’s exciting, gets your blood pumping,” said Eslick.
