LUFKIN, TX — The body of a teenage girl was recovered from a Lufkin creek Saturday afternoon.

Ayanna Austin, 13, went missing Thursday morning near Stephens Court Apartments in Lufkin.

Lufkin Police say Austin had gone home to change for school after falling into some mud.

They believe she was walking home when she slipped and fell into a nearby creek, which had been flooded due to the recent rainfall. She was unable to make it out of the water, and drowned.

Throughout the afternoon on Saturday, emergency crews, as well as Austin’s family members, searched the creek area.

Just before 4:30 p.m. one of her family members found her body.
