For the third time in three months, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about an imposter deputy.
One detail did change from the previous warnings. The calls are now going to residents in Potter County.
“This suspect continues to call area residents,” said Lieutenant Bryan Taylor. “He is also calling potential victims in the Amarillo area.”
The CBS affiliate in Amarillo reported that someone pretending to be a Potter County Deputy has been calling residents. The accounts from Potter County and Lubbock County have striking similarities.
LSO said Friday in a written statement, “This individual tells the resident that they have warrants out for their arrest, typically for failing to show up jury duty, and that they need to put a $500 ‘security bond.’”
“THIS IS A SCAM!” the statement from LSO said. “[It] should be reported to law enforcement immediately.”
“This suspect has called from numbers that have been traced to several different locations around the South Plains,” LSO said.

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating several complaints of an individual calling Lubbock and surrounding area residence representing himself as a “Lubbock Sheriff’s Deputy”. This individual tells the resident that they have warrants out for their arrest, typically for failing to show up jury duty, and that they need to put a $500 “security bond” and that he (suspect) can take a “fine” payment over the phone. The suspect will continue the call with payment information, and directions to the prospective victim, as to how payment can be made to reconcile the bogus warrant. This suspect has called from numbers that have been traced to several different locations around the south plains, and is known to be very persistent and convincing.
THIS IS A SCAM!!…and should be reported to law enforcement immediately. The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office WILL NOT notify any person(s) by phone in the event of a warrant being issued for their arrest, and will certainly never request or demand payment over the phone.
Citizens are encouraged to contact the Lubbock Sheriff’s Office at 775-1601 in the event they are the recipient of any such calls and terminate such calls immediately with no personal information given to the caller.
