Lubbock Fire Rescue, Lubbock Police, and other first responders were at the scene of a large house fire in the 100 block of East Stanford Monday morning.
According to Lubbock Fire crews on scene, one person was killed.
“The initial crew that was here noticed a lot of flames, a lot of smoke around the front of the house. Upon making entry around to the back to check on it, they did find the victim in the back,” said Kevin Ivy, with Lubbock Fire and Rescue.
Ivy said crews recieved the call at 7:06 a.m., and arrived on scene at 7:10 a.m.
Initial emergency reports indicated the home and garage were fully engulfed in flames. A large cloud of smoke was seen from North Lubbock.
Neighbors say it looked as if there was an explosion in the home, but LFR has yet to confirm that.
“First it sounded like he had a lot of ammunition, a lot of ricocheting bullets when they exploded and stuff, that was the first thing. Then the explosion, like boom, and that was it,” said Chris Caudillo, a neighbor.
A spokesperson with LFR said the flames were “contained to one structure,” but surrounding homes had minor damage.
Several roads have been blocked off, and LFR is asking residents to stay away from the area.
