Briles, Ties to TTU, Fired as Football Coach from Baylor

ESPN’s Brett McMurphy sent a message by Twitter at 10:44 am Thursday saying, “Baylor dismisses [football] coach Art Briles, source told @ESPN. Briles informed players via text, source said. Announcement expected at noon ET”

Earlier this week, there was a report by the Washington Post that Baylor Chancellor and President Ken Starr was fired for a sexual assault scandal involving the Bayor football team.  Baylor later said a final decision had not been made.  Then, on Thursday, Baylor said Starr would step down as President but remain as Chancellor.  He had been acting as both President and Chancellor.

Specifically the school is accused of covering up sexual assaults committed by players over a number of years.

Briles attended Texas Tech having transferred from Houston and graduated in 1979.  A year later he started coaching at Sundown High School.  From 2000 to 2002 he was the Texas Tech football running backs coach.

In 2007 he earned a position as the head football coach for Baylor.
