COKE COUNTY, TX — A Bronte woman was killed in a traffic accident Monday evening in rural Coke County
According to the DPS, the accident occurred along U.S. Highway 277, approximately 9.7 miles of Bronte, at 10:17 p.m.
Authorities say a Ford F-150 was travelling north on U.S. Highway 277. For an unknown reason, the driver of the truck traveled off the right side of the roadway, steered left and went back onto the roadway.
The driver then steered hard to the right, causing the truck to go into a right side skid off the right side of the roadway. The truck skidded into the east bar ditch and then overturned.
The driver, identified as Roberta Gale Hawkins, 73, of Bronte, was killed in the accident. The DPS report states Hawkins was not wearing a seat belt.
