A Brownwood man accused of hitting and killing an 8-year-old boy, then fleeing the scene, admitted to drinking a six-pack of beer beforehand.
Court documents stated Samuel Juarez Jr., 34, “admitted to consuming six 16oz Bud Ice beers” before he struck and killed Daylan Donnell Franklin. The boy was outside playing on the 1600 block of 6th Street Saturday afternoon.
Juarez also had bloodshot eyes, smelled like alcohol, and failed every field sobriety test according to the documents.
Juarez was charged with intoxication manslaughter and taken into custody in the Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $300,000.
Additional court documents obtained by KTAB and KRBC show Juarez has been arrested for alcohol-related traffic offenses five times in the past.
He participated in a pretrial diversion program for two of those offenses.
