A Brown County teen has been arrested for burglarizing the home of two murder victims, stealing their vehicles, then setting them on fire.
Colbey Ray Owings, 19, has been charged with arson, burglary of a habitation, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He’s currently being held in the Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $45,000.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says Owings entered the home of Abuith Andrian Flores and Ophelia V. Lucio on County Road 551 after learning they had been killed in September of 2016.
Authorities said Owings is homeless and broke into the home because he knew it was vacant.
He then stole two vehicles outside the residence after finding the keys then later burned them to destroy the evidence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicles were reported stolen one day after the murders occurred. They were recovered nearly ten days later on State Highway 279.
Detectives say Owings has no relation to the Flores family.
Flores’ son and Lucio’s stepson, Cody Michael Flores, 17, has been charged with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons in connection to the double homicide. He’s being held in the Brown County Jail
A Probable Cause Affidavit says Flores told detectives he shot and killed his father and stepmother with a rifle because his father wouldn’t let him move in with his grandmother.
Flores had been thinking about committing the homicides for about two weeks, according to the affidavit, which says when the detective asked Flores why he chose Saturday morning to finally go through with the act, Flores, “stated this was the first time he had thought of using a gun instead of a knife.”
The affidavit also claims Flores admitted he fabricated his original story about a suspect entering the home and holding him captive in order to get away with the murders.
