Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BSNF) reported Wednesday that two of their three employees missing following a train collision in Carson County Tuesday are dead. A third employee remains missing and is presumed dead as of Wednesday afternoon.

A fourth employee was able to jump from one of the trains and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“The entire BNSF family is terribly saddened by this event and we extend our deepest sympathy and thoughts to the families of the employees involved in this incident. This is an extremely difficult time and our entire organization grieves for the loss of our colleagues,” said Carl Ice, President and CEO of BNSF.

The two trains collided Tuesday morning near Panhandle. The railroad tracks run adjacent to U.S. Highway 60.

The crash ignited a large fire that was still smoldering Wednesday.

BSNF said the employees were headquartered in Amarillo.
